An analysis of the “Key Performance Indicators of Communication, Postal, and Courier Enterprises in the Republic of Kazakhstan for January-July 2024” report reveals several positive trends, but also signs of slowing growth in key sectors.
These trends require close attention, as they may significantly impact the further development of these industries.

Communication Sector: Steady Growth with Signs of Saturation
The physical volume index of communication services for the first seven months of 2024 was 108.3%, indicating continued sector growth. However, the growth rate has slowed compared to the same period in 2023 when the index was 108.5%. This may indicate the gradual saturation of the market and the need to update infrastructure to maintain previous growth rates.
Internet services continue to lead the sector, showing the highest growth with an index of 115.3%. However, a decline in indicators was observed in the mobile communication segment, where the index was 99.2%. This decline is concerning, especially considering the high dependency of the population on mobile services. If this trend continues, the sector may face challenges related to insufficient investment and outdated technology.
Subscribers and Connectivity: The Market Nears Saturation
The number of mobile communication subscribers in Kazakhstan for January-July, 2024 was 25,634.2 thousand units, which is practically unchanged compared to the previous year. This fact may indicate that the market has reached its growth limit. At the same time, the number of Internet-connected subscribers increased, reaching 18,650.9 thousand units, but the growth rate is beginning to slow down. Possible reasons could include high service tariffs and insufficient coverage in rural areas.
Volume of Communication Services: Slowing Growth in Key Regions
The total volume of communication services in Kazakhstan for January-July, 2024 amounted to 774,465.0 million tenge, which is 12.9% higher compared to the same period last year. At first glance, these figures appear encouraging, but a more detailed analysis reveals that growth rates are slowing in key regions such as Almaty and Astana. If this trend continues, it could negatively impact the sector’s stability in the future.

Postal and Courier Services: Stagnation and Challenges
Particular attention should be paid to the postal and courier services sector, where alarming trends are observed. The physical volume index of services for January-July, 2024 was only 102.7%, significantly lower than last year’s figures (128.9%). This decline may be related to increased competition from digital services and logistics companies offering faster and more convenient solutions.
The total volume of postal and courier services reached 43,965.0 million tenge, which is only slightly higher than last year’s figures. However, the slowdown in growth rates raises concerns about the future of this sector, especially in the context of increasing competition and changing consumer preferences.
In the context of slowing growth in key communication and courier service sectors, it becomes clear that current strategies need to be revised. Special attention should be given to developing mobile communication infrastructure, where a decline in indicators is observed. Without adequate investment and technology modernization, the sector risks losing its competitiveness.
Moreover, the postal and courier services sector needs to adapt to the changing market conditions. The introduction of innovations and improvements in service quality may become key factors in maintaining market positions.
Despite the continued growth of the communication sector in Kazakhstan, the observed trends towards a slowdown are concerning. The sector requires new approaches and strategies to maintain growth rates and overcome challenges. This is especially relevant for the courier service sector, where signs of stagnation are already evident. Immediate attention to these issues is necessary to ensure the sustainable development of the industry in the context of digital transformation.
